Q: Which technique separates sand from salt?
Did You Know?
To factorise \(3w^2 - 12\), first factor out the common factor of 3: \(3(w^2 - 4)\). Then recognise that \(w^2 - 4\) is a difference of two squares: \(w^2 - 2^2\). Using the formula \(a^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b)\), we get \((w + 2)(w - 2)\). Therefore, the complete factorisation is \(3(w + 2)(w - 2)\).
