Did You Know?

Block mountains (or horst mountains) are formed when large blocks of the Earth's crust are uplifted along faults. The uplifted block becomes the mountain, while the surrounding areas may subside to form rift valleys or grabens. The Sierra Nevada in California and the Vosges in France are examples of block mountains.
