This question works backwards from percentage error to absolute error. Step 1: Understand the relationship. Percentage Error = \(\frac{\text{Absolute Error}}{\text{Actual Value}} \times 100\%\). Step 2: Rearrange to solve for absolute error: Absolute Error = \(\frac{\text{Percentage Error} \times \text{Actual Value}}{100}\). Step 3: Substitute values: Absolute Error = \(\frac{3 \times 80}{100}\) = \(\frac{240}{100}\) = 2.4 m. Alternatively, you can think of it as: 3% of 80 = 0.03 × 80 = 2.4 m. The absolute error inherits the units of the original measurement (meters in this case). In ECZ examinations, questions may ask you to find any of the three quantities (absolute error, relative error, or percentage error) given the other two. Being able to rearrange the formula is crucial. This reverse calculation often appears in ECZ Paper 2 where you might need to determine acceptable tolerances in measurements.
