Q: Reducing post-harvest losses is primarily an issue for high-income countries, not low-income countries. True or False?
Did You Know?
This statement is true. A varicocele is defined as an abnormal dilation and tortuosity (twisting) of the pampiniform plexus of veins within the spermatic cord. This plexus is responsible for draining blood from the testicle. Varicoceles are much more common on the left side (about 90% of cases) due to anatomical differences in venous drainage. They often feel like a 'bag of worms' on physical examination, especially when the patient is standing and performing a Valsalva maneuver (bearing down), which increases abdominal pressure and makes the veins more prominent. While often asymptomatic, varicoceles can cause a dull, aching scrotal pain or a feeling of heaviness. They are also a recognized cause of male subfertility, as the increased venous pressure and pooling of warm blood can raise testicular temperature and impair spermatogenesis.
