Pelvic or perineal pain is a hallmark symptom of chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS), the most common form of prostatitis. The pain, which must last for at least 3 months, can be located in the perineum (between scrotum and anus), lower abdomen, testicles, penis, or with ejaculation. Other common symptoms include urinary frequency, urgency, and a sense of incomplete emptying. Importantly, CP/CPPS is not caused by an active bacterial infection, so fever and chills are absent. The condition can significantly impact quality of life and often requires a multidisciplinary management approach.
