While the exact infectious causes of prostate cancer are still under investigation, some epidemiological studies have suggested a possible association between Trichomonas vaginalis infection and an increased risk of aggressive prostate cancer. Trichomonas vaginalis is a common sexually transmitted protozoan parasite. The proposed mechanism is that the chronic inflammation caused by the infection may promote cellular changes and carcinogenesis within the prostate. However, this link is not as definitively established as the link between HPV and penile/cervical cancers. Other STIs like Gonorrhea and Chlamydia have been studied with inconsistent results. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is associated with an increased risk of several cancers due to immunosuppression, but its specific link to prostate cancer is not strong. It's important to note that the primary risk factors for prostate cancer remain age, family history, and race.
