In schizophrenia, the premorbid personality often shows characteristics that predispose to the development of the disorder. A schizoid personality is characterized by social withdrawal, emotional coldness, and preference for solitary activities. These traits are commonly observed before the onset of schizophrenia and represent early signs of the disorder's development. Schizoid individuals typically have difficulty forming close relationships, show little interest in social activities, and display a restricted range of emotions. This premorbid pattern makes them more vulnerable to developing full-blown schizophrenia when combined with other risk factors such as genetic predisposition, stress, or neurobiological changes. The other personality types (extrovert, ambivert, cycloid) do not typically predispose individuals to schizophrenia in the same way.
