Complete disruption of the ability to perceive occurs in severe anxiety, not panic state. In severe anxiety, the person experiences significant impairment in perception and cognitive functioning, with greatly reduced ability to process environmental stimuli effectively. The perceptual field becomes extremely narrow, and the person has difficulty focusing on anything other than the anxiety itself. While panic state represents the highest level of anxiety, severe anxiety is characterized specifically by this complete disruption of perceptual abilities. Moderate anxiety still allows some perception, and mild anxiety has minimal impact on perceptual abilities.
