Q: Which of the following is a pathognomonic feature of Hodgkin Lymphoma on lymph node biopsy?

Did You Know?

False. While calcitonin, secreted by the thyroid C-cells, can lower blood calcium by inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and increasing renal calcium excretion, its physiological role in the daily regulation of calcium homeostasis in healthy adults is considered minor. Parathyroid hormone (PTH) and vitamin D (calcitriol) are the dominant regulators. Calcitonin's effects are more significant during periods of rapid calcium flux, such as in growing children, during pregnancy and lactation, or in conditions of hypercalcemia. In fact, patients who have had their thyroid removed (and thus have no calcitonin) do not develop disorders of calcium balance solely due to its absence, as long as PTH and vitamin D function normally. Calcitonin is, however, used therapeutically as a drug to treat hypercalcemia and certain bone diseases like Paget's disease.
