Did You Know?
While fasting plasma glucose and oral glucose tolerance tests are used, measurement of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a primary diagnostic and monitoring tool. HbA1c reflects the average blood glucose levels over the preceding 2-3 months. A level of 6.5% (48 mmol/mol) or higher is diagnostic for diabetes.
