Primary and Secondary Immunodeficiencies
Q: Which component of the immune system is defective in Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID)?
Did You Know?
True. One of AKT's key pro-survival functions is to phosphorylate the pro-apoptotic protein BAD. Phosphorylated BAD is sequestered by 14-3-3 proteins in the cytoplasm, preventing it from migrating to the mitochondria and inhibiting anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family members. This inhibits the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis, allowing the cell to survive.
