Q: Clinical laboratory errors cost all of the following EXCEPT:

Did You Know?

This statement is false. In a healthy adult, the absence of the expected ABO antibodies is an abnormal finding and a cause for immediate investigation. For example, a person with type A blood should have anti-B antibodies in their serum. If these are absent (a condition called 'missing antibody'), it can indicate an underlying problem. Common causes include: immunodeficiency states (congenital or acquired like hypogammaglobulinemia), extreme old age or infancy, immunosuppressive therapy, certain hematologic malignancies like chronic lymphocytic leukemia, or a recent plasma transfusion that diluted the patient's own antibodies. This finding is significant because it can lead to errors in reverse blood grouping and may mask the presence of other clinically significant antibodies.
