Hot flashes are a very common and often bothersome side effect of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer. ADT drastically reduces testosterone levels, which disrupts the body's thermoregulation, leading to sudden feelings of intense heat, sweating, and flushing, typically in the face, neck, and chest. Other significant side effects of ADT include loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, weight gain, gynecomastia (breast enlargement), osteoporosis (increased risk of bone fractures), and an increased risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease. Managing these side effects is an important aspect of patient care during ADT.
