Viral Vectors in Gene Therapy
Q: Which of the following is a vector commonly used in gene therapy to deliver genes into human cells?
Did You Know?
True. EBERs (EBV-encoded small RNAs) are the most abundant viral transcripts in latently infected cells. While their exact functions are still being elucidated, they are believed to contribute to cell survival and immune evasion. Due to their extremely high copy number (up to 10^7 copies per cell), they serve as an excellent target for detection. In situ hybridization for EBERs (EBER-ISH) is a gold-standard diagnostic test to confirm the presence of EBV within the nuclei of tumor cells in cancers like nasopharyngeal carcinoma, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder, and some Hodgkin lymphomas.
