The benign tumor of the penis (and anogenital region) caused primarily by low-risk strains of Human Papillomavirus (HPV), especially types 6 and 11, is called Condyloma Acuminatum, commonly known as genital warts. These lesions present as single or multiple, soft, fleshy, exophytic (outward-growing) growths that can be small and flat or large and cauliflower-like in appearance. They are typically located on the glans, prepuce, penile shaft, perianal area, or within the urethra. While they are benign and have a very low potential for malignant transformation, they are highly contagious through sexual contact and can cause significant psychological distress, itching, and discomfort. Treatment options aim to remove visible warts and include topical agents (like imiquimod or podophyllotoxin), cryotherapy, electrocautery, or surgical excision. Vaccination against HPV can prevent infection with these strains.
