Chemical Formulae

This topic equips you with the skill to deduce and write chemical formulae for compounds, a fundamental requirement of the ECZ syllabus. You will learn to assign valencies to elements and radicals, and use either the valency method or charge balance method to construct correct formulae for binary and ternary compounds. Being able to write accurate formulae is non-negotiable for success in chemistry—it is needed for writing equations, performing mole calculations, and describing chemical processes. CBC activities focus on applying these rules to Zambian-relevant compounds. Strong performance in this area directly improves your scores in exam sections involving chemical reactions and quantitative chemistry.

Outcomes

If you passGreat work! You can now confidently write chemical formulae, which is essential for all future chemistry topics and ECZ exams.
If you don't pass yetFormulae require careful practice. Review the valency rules and common radicals, then attempt the exercise once more.
