Testicular cancer most commonly affects young and middle-aged men, with the peak incidence occurring between the ages of 20 and 40 years. This is notably different from most other solid cancers, which typically occur in older adults. There is also a smaller peak in incidence in early childhood (around ages 0-10) and another in men over 60. The most common type in the 20-40 age group is germ cell tumors, including both seminomas and non-seminomas. This age distribution is one reason why any solid testicular mass in a young man must be taken very seriously and evaluated promptly, as testicular cancer is one of the most curable solid cancers, especially when detected early.
