The interpeduncular fossa is a depression on the ventral surface of the midbrain between the two cerebral peduncles. It contains the oculomotor nerves (CN III) as they emerge, and parts of the Circle of Willis (like the basilar bifurcation, posterior cerebral arteries). The optic chiasm is located anteriorly, superior to the pituitary gland, and is not within the interpeduncular fossa.
