In warm AIHA, IgG antibodies coat the red cells. The Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT) uses an antibody that reacts with human IgG. If IgG is present on the patient's red cells, it will cause them to clump, giving a positive result. Spherocytes are also commonly seen as the spleen 'nibbles' on the antibody-coated cells.
Break down complex topics into smaller, manageable chunks for easier recall.
