Epoprostenol is a synthetic prostacyclin (PGI2) that activates IP receptors on vascular smooth muscle and platelets. This leads to: 1) Vasodilation (via increased cAMP). 2) Inhibition of platelet aggregation (anti-thrombotic). It is used in pulmonary arterial hypertension and during hemodialysis.
