Wernicke's area (posterior superior temporal gyrus) and Broca's area (inferior frontal gyrus) are in different gyri and lobes. Damage to Wernicke's area impairs comprehension of both spoken and written language. Broca's area damage causes non-fluent, effortful speech but comprehension is relatively preserved.
