Crime Scene Investigation and Reconstruction

Crime scene investigation (CSI) and reconstruction are foundational pillars of forensic science education for tertiary students in Zambia. This topic covers the systematic approach to securing, documenting, and processing a crime scene, including evidence collection, chain of custody, and the application of Locard's Exchange Principle. University and diploma students will learn to create flowcharts for scene management, prioritize evidence, and use logical reasoning to reconstruct events. The module is critical for understanding how physical, biological, and digital evidence are integrated to form a coherent narrative for court presentation. In the Zambian context, where resources may be limited, efficient and methodical scene processing is paramount. This training prepares students for roles as forensic investigators, crime scene technicians, or legal experts, ensuring they can uphold evidentiary integrity and contribute effectively to criminal investigations nationwide.
