Aseptic technique refers to a set of specific practices and procedures performed under carefully controlled conditions with the goal of minimizing contamination by pathogens. It is designed to prevent the introduction of microorganisms into sterile body sites (like during surgery or catheter insertion) or onto sterile equipment and supplies, thereby preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). There are two main types: medical asepsis (clean technique) and surgical asepsis (sterile technique).
