Iodine stain is a simple, common wet mount stain used in parasitology. It kills organisms and stains glycogen and nuclei a brownish color. For Giardia cysts, iodine helps make the cyst wall, the 2-4 nuclei, and the characteristic curved axonemes (fibrils) more visible under the microscope.
