Neuron-Specific Enolase (NSE) and Pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) are neuroendocrine markers that are often significantly elevated in Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC), a neuroendocrine tumor. They are less commonly elevated in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). While not diagnostic alone, their elevation in the context of a lung nodule can provide a strong clue towards SCLC, which has different treatment strategies.
