Q: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) primarily infects CD4+ T lymphocytes.
Did You Know?
True. The hypoglossal nerve (CN XII) supplies motor innervation to the intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the tongue (except palatoglossus). A lesion causes ipsilateral paralysis. When the patient protrudes the tongue, the unopposed action of the healthy genioglossus muscle on the opposite side pushes the tongue toward the side of the lesion.
