This statement is true. The MAM blood group system (ISBT 037) consists of a single high-frequency antigen, MAM. This antigen is located on the **CD109 glycoprotein**. CD109 is a GPI-anchored protein found on platelets, activated T-cells, and endothelial cells. The MAM-negative phenotype is extremely rare. Anti-MAM antibodies have been reported in association with Hemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn (HDFN), indicating potential clinical significance. CD109 itself is a TGF-β co-receptor and may be involved in immune regulation.
