A fundamental responsibility of nurses in infection control is practicing proper hand hygiene before and after every patient contact, after touching contaminated surfaces, and before performing aseptic procedures. Hand hygiene is the single most effective measure to prevent the transmission of pathogens and healthcare-associated infections.
