Phenylephrine is a pure alpha-1 agonist. It causes vasoconstriction and increased BP, triggering a baroreceptor-mediated reflex bradycardia. If atropine blocks the parasympathetic limb of this reflex, the bradycardia is abolished, leaving only the pressor effect with no heart rate change.
