Atropine is a muscarinic antagonist that blocks parasympathetic tone on the heart. Normally, norepinephrine-induced hypertension triggers a reflex increase in vagal tone (bradycardia). Atropine blocks this reflex bradycardia, unmasking a direct or mild reflex tachycardia.
