Parasite shedding in stool is often intermittent and variable. An infected person may not pass cysts or trophozoites in every bowel movement. Therefore, examining a single stool sample can yield a false-negative result. Analyzing two or three samples collected on separate days significantly increases the sensitivity and likelihood of detecting the parasite.
