Proteomics: Principles and Techniques
Q: What is the term for the complete set of proteins expressed by a genome?
Did You Know?
This statement is false. The vast majority (over 95%) of penile cancers are squamous cell carcinomas (SCC). They arise from the squamous epithelium of the glans, prepuce, or penile shaft. Risk factors include lack of circumcision, poor hygiene, phimosis, chronic inflammation, smoking, and infection with high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types (16, 18). Basal cell carcinoma of the penis is extremely rare. Other rare penile malignancies include melanoma, sarcoma, and Paget's disease. Therefore, any suspicious penile lesion is far more likely to be a squamous cell carcinoma than any other type of cancer.
