Q: In the context of a blood bank 'lookback' procedure, what is being investigated?
Did You Know?
True. K1 (also known as LAMP) is a viral glycoprotein with a cytoplasmic tail containing an ITAM motif, similar to those found in B-cell and Fc receptors. Upon cross-linking (which can occur spontaneously due to oligomerization), the ITAM motif is phosphorylated, recruiting SYK kinases. This leads to the activation of downstream signaling cascades, including PI3K/AKT (promoting survival) and PLCγ/PKC/NF-κB (promoting proliferation and inflammation), contributing to the pathogenesis of KSHV-associated diseases.
