For contact precautions (used for pathogens like MRSA, VRE, C. difficile), the primary action is to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent transmission via direct or indirect contact. This means donning gloves and a gown for all entries into the patient's room or when anticipating contact with the patient or their environment (e.g., bed, bedside table). PPE is donned before room entry and carefully doffed and disposed of before leaving to avoid contaminating oneself or the environment outside the room.
