FOXO transcription factors (e.g., FOXO1, FOXO3a) promote the expression of genes involved in cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, and stress resistance. When AKT phosphorylates FOXO proteins, it creates a binding site for 14-3-3 proteins, which sequester FOXO in the cytoplasm and promote its degradation. This inactivation of FOXO suppresses apoptosis and cell cycle inhibitors, promoting cell survival and proliferation.
