The findings suggest a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), common in preemies. Indomethacin, an NSAID, inhibits prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins (especially PGE2) keep the ductus arteriosus open. By reducing prostaglandins, indomethacin promotes closure of the PDA.
