Did You Know?

This is known as 'missing-self' recognition. Natural Killer (NK) cells are activated when they detect the absence or reduction of 'self' MHC Class I molecules on a cell surface (a situation often created by viruses or tumors). So, while MHC-I loss helps tumors evade CTLs, it can make them targets for NK cells.
