Q: Chromium enhances insulin sensitivity.

Did You Know?

True. FFPE stands for Formalin-Fixed, Paraffin-Embedded, and it is the gold standard and most common method of tissue preparation in surgical pathology and diagnostic IHC worldwide. The process involves: 1) **Fixation**: Immersing fresh tissue in 10% neutral buffered formalin, which cross-links proteins to preserve morphology. 2) **Processing**: Dehydrating the tissue in alcohols, clearing it in xylene, and infiltrating it with molten paraffin wax. 3) **Embedding**: Placing the tissue in a mold with paraffin and allowing it to solidify into a block. This method provides excellent long-term preservation of tissue architecture, allows for very thin sectioning, and the blocks can be stored at room temperature for decades. While formalin fixation can mask antigens, the development of robust antigen retrieval techniques has made FFPE tissue highly suitable for a vast array of IHC tests, forming the backbone of modern diagnostic pathology.
