Bupivacaine is a long-acting amide local anesthetic, providing analgesia for 4-12 hours depending on the formulation and use. Chloroprocaine is very short-acting. Lignocaine (lidocaine) is intermediate-acting. Prilocaine is also intermediate-acting.
