Lorazepam is preferred in patients with liver impairment because it is metabolized via conjugation (glucuronidation), which is less affected by liver disease compared to the oxidative metabolism (by cytochrome P450 enzymes) required for drugs like diazepam and chlordiazepoxide. This reduces the risk of drug accumulation and excessive sedation.
