Stress is a normal, often manageable response to life's demands and pressures. A crisis, however, is a specific, time-limited event or situation that overwhelms an individual's usual coping mechanisms and psychological homeostasis. While stress can be chronic or acute, a crisis represents a breaking point where the person's ability to function is significantly impaired, and they are unable to resolve the situation using their typical problem-solving skills. Crisis intervention aims to restore equilibrium.
