Clinical Internship and Professional Socialization
This culminating experiential topic focuses on the transition from student to professional nurse through structured clinical internships or practicums. It encompasses the application of theoretical knowledge in real-world settings under supervision, the development of clinical competencies, and the process of professional socialization—adopting the values, ethics, and behaviors of the nursing profession. For Zambian nursing students, this is the critical bridge to practice. It tests the integration of all prior learning in hospitals and communities, building confidence and clinical judgment. Success in this area, evaluated through clinical assessments and preceptor feedback, is often a final requirement for graduation and licensure by the General Nursing Council of Zambia, preparing competent, work-ready nurses for the Zambian health system.
