Microarray Techniques
Q: What is the name of the technique used to analyze gene expression levels by hybridizing labeled cDNA to a chip?
Did You Know?
False. The Harada-Mori filter paper culture is a specific technique used for the diagnosis of nematode (roundworm) infections, particularly Strongyloides stercoralis and hookworm. It is not used for protozoa. A small amount of fresh stool is placed on a strip of filter paper, which is partially immersed in water in a tube. The setup is kept at room temperature for several days. Larvae present in the stool (or that hatch from eggs) migrate down the moist filter paper into the water. The water is then examined microscopically for characteristic larvae. This technique allows larvae to develop and concentrate, increasing the chance of detecting light infections. For protozoan cysts, concentration methods like formalin-ethyl acetate sedimentation or zinc sulfate flotation are used.
