Lung Abscess, Tuberculosis, and Neoplasms

This advanced topic integrates several major pulmonary pathologies: Lung Abscess, Tuberculosis, and Lung Cancer. For tertiary students in Zambia, this is crucial for understanding chronic destructive lung processes and differentiating infection from malignancy. You will study the etiology and pathology of lung abscesses, the immunopathogenesis of tuberculosis (including primary Ghon complex and secondary/reactivation disease), and the broad classification of lung neoplasms into primary and metastatic. This knowledge is essential for forming differential diagnoses for cavitary lung lesions, interpreting histopathology and microbiological results, and understanding the public health impact of TB. Mastery is required for final year pathology and medicine examinations and is indispensable for careers in pulmonology, infectious disease, or oncology in Zambian healthcare institutions.
