Uterine and Endometrial Pathology

This topic covers a wide array of uterine conditions, from congenital anomalies to common tumors and cancers. Zambian tertiary students will study uterine malformations (e.g., septate, bicornuate uterus), endometritis, endometriosis, leiomyomas (fibroids), leiomyosarcoma, and endometrial carcinoma. A key learning objective is contrasting the benign, ubiquitous fibroid with its malignant counterpart, leiomyosarcoma. You will also explore the risk factors and histology of endometrial cancer, the most common gynecologic malignancy in many settings. This knowledge is essential for diagnosing causes of abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, and infertility. It is fundamental for success in pathology and clinical obstetrics/gynecology examinations and is directly applicable to managing a large proportion of patients presenting to gynecological services in Zambian hospitals and clinics.
